Well to be honest mate clearly the host isn't fine. I'd say 1/4 times I come on the site I get performance degradation issues. If what you say is true and bandwidth capacity isn't a problem, with limited data to actually upload since everything of size that's posted is just embedded from other sites, then surely that is indicative of the quality of hosts connection? I just tested the IVR site when this site wasn't loading for me and it had similar problems at the same time. That indicates to me that there isn't even bandwidth segmentation(QoS or w/e) to stop others from maxxing out the shared client connections.
I get it, hosts use shared connections, but if there isn't the setup to stop performance issues effecting others then you can be pretty screwed. Seems to be the case in this instance.
Surely the database backend of this site isn't so IO intensive some of the more scalable public hosts couldn't handle it on the cheap?
Eh, doesn't matter anyway. Let's just get it fixed!!!
