One could argue that Muzzins stats are a bit inflated on a powerhouse team where Buffs stats are marginalized a bit by playing with the Jets. The Jets as a whole have under performed greatly this season.
I am of the opinion that this is the case, and I am not taking away from Muzzin in any way really, just thinking that the gap is greater but not easy to see with eyes only. To me and it's my thoughts only, that Buff is easily worth 3m more.

It comes down to the role they are playing too of course but in this situation Muzzin is a top 2 d-man on a team that is 1st in their division while playing 22 minutes per night.
Byfuglien is a top 2 d-man on his team that is last in their division while playing 24 minutes per night.
The roles are pretty much identical.
While the Kings are the better team, the points that each player puts up is a wash from a team production standpoint. The Kings have scored 129 goals, while the Jets have scored 126 goals.
Physically Buff has the advantage but Muzzin is no slouch: Byfuglien has 138 hits, while Muzzin has 111 hits.
They block similar numbers of shots: Muzzin has 68 blocks & Buff has 61 blocks.
Everything here points to the players being a relative wash. In that case I take the 4 years younger, and $3M cheaper player every day. Especially because IMO Muzzin is one of the most underrated d-men in the game.
Personally I also worry about how Buff ages due to the weight issues.
