I still think JJ made a mistake in making him an emo kid. Kylo could have been a badass villain, maybe a mature villain who is basically an evil Han Solo - like his dad but without morals.

I think the whole point is that he will be.

There arent really any spoilers but just in case:

The Force Awakens was basically Kylo's first day as a villain. He wasnt brilliant but it was his first day, he got over some basic jitters, figured out the lay of the land like where the coffee machine is and when breaktimes are and he overcame some basic villainy obstacles.

I imagine that we'll see a much more villainous Kylo in future.

As for the emo kid, I think thats probably been burned out of him. Emo kids are poser wannabes, hes the real thing now.

The thing is we're all comparing him to Vader, but when we first saw Vader he was well into his career in villainy, we started with Vader in his prime, here we have to wait as the new villain sort of gets broken in.
