I ruptured mine from tennis in July 2012. Went into a fiberglass cast the next day.
I elected to go with casting rather than surgery. There is a major shift toward conservative (casting) over surgery amongst Calgary orthopedic surgeons since tendon heals back quite nicely without surgery.
Full recovery but took many months. No scar. I rarely remember it ever happened now.
Just need to be careful with the tendon as it heals. Don't stretch it violently. Re-rupture is common in first 18 weeks. Then uncommon.
Fiberglass cast for 4-6 weeks...then special boot with wedges...then normal shoe with lots of physio.
