I will just add that I had a neighbour recently go through this, and were initially given similar advice....to wait and make an appt for a week or whatever. Fortunately they have some friends in medicine who were able to arrange a second opinion, and they reinforced the importance of a quick surgery if it was completely ruptured.
Turns out it wasn't completely ruptured so they decided to leave it without surgery, but if you can get sort sort of second opinion I would encourage it.
