The incident has created a public relations nightmare for the NHL. That video clip of Wideman hitting the linesman is being played on every TV station in North America. Those who don't know the game will look at that incident and take with them an favourable view of the game. Then there's the officials who referee these games and doing what's right to ensure them the league takes the issue of player/referee incidents seriously.
It doesn't look good for Wideman even with his post game apologies. It's interesting that when you slow and breakdown the video that there seems to be a wide variety of opinions from sportswriters and broadcasters as to what Wideman should and could have done to avoid that collision.
