The term 'mental illness' gets thrown around way too liberally nowadays in my opinion. It's almost becoming chic to have some sort of mental disorder. Having a sad day, doesn't make you clinically depressed, it's just means you are having a sad day. It's human. Mental illness is now becoming the new celiac disease. Everyone seems to be self diagnosing. it does kinda bother me, as someone who has lived through the absolute crippling effects of depression, you know the people that are playing the mental illness 'munchausen' card.
If you want a look into depression, paranoia and isolation, take a read through this mans Facebook profile. I actually really feel for this guy. Whether or not society abandoned him or not, this guy was suffering alone, and genuinely needed help. This wasn't a dude that was sad face because his girlfriend cheated on him, this guy was suffering severely, and suffering alone.
Thank god nobody got hurt, and the police did what they had to do, however in many ways it sounds like receiving professional help could have prevented his life ending the way it did, and it also sounds like a lot of people made some very empty promises to him.
Tragic story. Hopefully he has found some sort of peace.
