This is really useful stuff because I was actually using a spreadsheet to track my monthly usage and costs so that I can monitor how we use gas and electricity.
Our electricity usage is quite high in really cold months and was 40% higher that similar homes in the last cycle. That is mostly because when it gets below -5 for daytime highs I turn on the electric heaters in the garage. During the warmer months our electricity usage is lower than similar homes.
Surprisingly for natural gas we are always lower than similar homes. I would have expected that we were higher especially because we have a natural gas stove and oven and bbq. Homes in our area are old and most don't have natural gas in the kitchen or patio. I also cook dinner at home pretty much every day and use the bbq at least 3 times a week. I guess our home must be pretty good for heating and insulation compared to similar homes.
