That's the part where I'm sure there was more to the story.
EDIT: To make it perfectly clear, I'm speculating he must of had some sort of rigged up device to do this because the probability of a quadriplegic firing a weapon while exiting a residence is pretty much nil. I imagine even if he was a paraplegic, wheeling yourself out and firing would be difficult.

Pretty sure the guy didn't lose the full use of his limbs yesterday. If he had a motorized chair he wouldn't be struggling all that much. Wheel out with one hand, fire a gun "indiscriminately" with the other.
Don't think he suddenly became a fantastic mix of Jason Bourne and MacGyver, leaping into a gun fight with a wheelchair mounted rocket launcher.
