Baertschi was on several occasions vocal about his displeasure with how he was handled by the Flames, and intimated once or twice that he was not getting the playing time he deserved.

He was traded because he forced the Flames hand. Mind you, he did this behind closed doors, but it was reported widely that Baertschi informed the Flames he would not sign his QO, and that he wished to be moved to another organisation.
