If Wideman breaks his scoring slump, he is fine. Overpaid, but fine. How quickly people forget what he was like when he got here. His defense has improved with age. He is verrry slow, but his positioning is sound more often than not. For a 5th d-man PP type, he is useful in that role when scoring. We don't make the playoffs last year without him stepping up his minutes and not being a total liability. So while not an long term answer, and definitely a guy you get rid of after his contract unless you can cut his salary at least in half, if he starts scoring he is not that big of an issue.

I do not understand the hate for Russell. The guy is a warrior and plays a #4 role. You are not going to find a better #4 defenseman. I was going to type more but he just blocked the rest of my post about him.

My choices and reasoning:

Raymond, for obvious reasons, but the most obvious is that he is taking the place of someone who could learn on the job and provide the same thing or more quite easily.

Colborne, the experiment has failed and any chance of a breakout seems gone. Worth the attempt with his size and skills, but he just lacks hockey sense. He never seems to be in the right place and his hands or brain fail him at the worst time.

Hiller, I have never had confidence in this type of goalie. It was frustrating when he had his good seasons because blocking type goalies need to get extremely lucky with rebounds, or have a team built to do nothing other than clear rebounds when on defense. Turek was a lot like this, so was Giguere. When you have a team that does that well, you get seasons like their best ones, when you're not a team that does that well, you get seasons like this from Hiller and the majority of the seasons of the other mentioned goalies too.
