Because 99.9% of the time, when it's someone at my door or calling me that I don't already know, I don't want to talk to them.
In our modern world, where basically every waking moment I'm connected to everyone else either in person, by email, by phone, by social media, it can feel like I get next to no privacy. The last thing on earth I want is to waste my time (even if it's 2 minutes, because those two minutes are becoming increasingly scarce) telling someone I don't want whatever the hell it is they're peddling.
When I came home last Friday, It was the end of my work week, I was tired, and I was looking forward to some down time. Seeing some guy on my stoop waiting to pitch me something is the last thing I want.
How often do you get a phone call from a number you don't know that you actually were GLAD you answered?
