Here is a team that made the 2nd round last year, has Gaudreau, Bennett, Monahan and Brodie and the coach of the year who is a quote machine and nobody can build a show around this?
Scott having a blast at the all-star game voted in by the people is an amazing marketing opportunity for a corporate event and the NHL has to purposely flush it down the toilet.

You complain about the product so much, why even watch? Your opinion seems to be that the game is boring and the NHL is corrupt/incompetent. Why not vote with your wallet and stop watching?
I'd say the NHL is pretty smart here. They got what they wanted and they know they won't lose people like you anyway. And even if they did, I doubt they would even notice their Scrooge McDuckian vault taking a hit.
If anything, all this is great PR for the league. Both the joke vote and the ridiculous outrage. I bet this is the most viewed all star game in years with how much it's being talked about. All you people that are mad are probably going to contribute to higher ratings and more money for the league. Bettman and his cronies are probably laughing their asses off right now as they light their cigars with 100 dollar bills.
