So changing the rules after your negative outcome occurs is pretty bush league. You got the media attention from the Rory fitzpatricks and John Scott's driving "real fans" to vote against them. You used this controversy to drive traffic to the site. You claimed you would honour the vote. If they just said after the Rory Fitzpatrick that if the NHL feels that the player is not representirive of the elite skills of the league they reserve the right to overturn the vote then it would be fine. But they wanted the attention.
Then once it happens you change it. To me it's mostly just classless.
