I was talking to the guys at work about that, and they all said the same thing, that they would take the cash up front which I think is half.

They asked me what I would do, and I told them, if I won the Powerball, nobody that I knew would see me for about 5 years, they'd all get hand written letters from an untraceable address, and a one time wire transfer of a significant gift, with a legal agreement to sign that if they ever ask me for more money, they would have to pay back the original gift.

I would find a charity or two that I liked and donate a fairly significant amount, and publish in the paper that if I re-appear that I won't take calls from any other charity.

Then I would live the next five years completely away from the grid, and have a set annual allowance paid to me through trust.

I would go and work as a farm hand in Manitoba, a crossing guard in New Brunswick. A taxi Driver in Montreal, a house painter in Vancouver, a spit bucket guy for a low ranked heavy weight boxer, and write god awful fiction and poetry and self publish it.

Then after 5 years, when things have cooled off and I've lived away from the principle of the money, I'd go and do un-announced midnight visits to close family members and friends.

Then I'd decide if I wanted to vanish again or not.

That's if I ever won the big lottery prize.
