I could be wrong here, but I actually would bet that the Calgary Flames or any other Canadian NHL team is actually worth more than the entire CFL, by a wide margin. What's a CFL team worth? Maybe $10-15 mil?
Not trying to argue for the sake of it, but spending even $100 million on a stadium for a team that plays 10 times a year, and might be worth $20 million, makes a lot less sense than investing $500 million in a team worth $300 mil, and provides a great deal of national and international exposure to the city. Not only that, the building is used for 2 other teams that generate revenue plus can host other events year round.
Building a state of the art stadium for the stamps seems kinda like building a 6000 square foot luxury home in the middle of a trailer park. You'll never get return on your investment.
