People really overrate that movie because of the character chemistry and entertainment value, which overshadows a lot of its warts.

I wonder what people would say about TFA without the star wars mystique attached? The story was nothing special and the villains were pretty 'meh'. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but let's not kid ourselves, movies like GotG and star wars can't be described as masterpieces... nor can 99% of science fiction if we're being honest. GotG was roughly on par with TFA in my opinion, but didn't get the same hype boost nor did people 'want it to be good'.
