What we need is for Ferland to turn into a top two line power forward sooner rather than later and the addition of another big forward. Plenty of size up front at the top end of this draft.

People rag on Colborne but frankly he's one of the best forwards we have at protecting the puck. Johnny is another despite his small stature. Monahan just isn't as good at protecting the puck and outmuscling guys as guys like Getzlaf, Jagr, Barkov, etc. Bennett may be one of our best at protecting the puck if he can add some more muscle because he has the skill and power game to win battles all around the offensive zone. We're missing Frolik ATM who has some skill and weight.

Overall we're a little too small and soft. That's why I think Hudler isn't really a fit long term with Johnny being our key player and Monny not playing any sort of power game at all right now. Right now our depth lines are actually reasonably physical and strong with the likes of Jones, Bouma, Ferland, Bollig. I'd eject Ramond at the first possible opportunity. A guy like Derek Grant in the AHL could provide us a big, strong bottom 2 line power centre either later this year or next year to replace a Backlund or Stajan if we want.

If the year goes south we should be able to grab a big forward at the draft this year because there is oodles of them. In an ideal world we might have a Regehr type player in our top 4 as well to compliment the likes of Gio, Brodie and Hamilton since our defense outside of our #5-6 guys isn't very physical or physically imposing.

We have a heck of a lot of pieces, more than we've ever had in my time of following the team. One or two more key acquisitions through trade or the draft and we may be fairly set long term. The continued development of Ferland and Bennett will be one of the biggest reasons we become harder to play against and harder to shut down and contain.
