The thing about Fuhr: His stats were that bad, not because he wasn't a good goalie, but because his team hung him out to dry every night. The Oilers didn't score five goals a game or thereabouts because they were just that good offensively; they did it by ignoring their own end of the ice and playing run-and-gun every night. On many plays, Fuhr wasn't the last line of defence, he was the
only line of defence.
Sound familiar? It should, because that's what the Oilers are still doing today… only without the talent to get away with it.
