He has pretty average stats over his career and whenever I watch him he seems to rely on his size and positioning too much. I'd rather have a more athletic goalie than one that just hopes the shots hit him. Watching him in the playoffs I couldn't help but think he was the weak link on their team. Looks shaky and tentative as often as he looks in composed and in control. He just doesn't inspire any confidence in me.
Besides, is he really is he a top 10 goalie? If he's not, I'm not interested in trading for him. There are plenty of average goalies around, I don't think we should be trading assets for one.
IMO, all these goalies are better
Lundqvist
Quick
Holtby
Luongo
Schnieder
Rask
Bishop
Bobrovsky
Fleury
Varlamov
Allen
Dubnyk
Mrazek
Crawford
Halak
Gibson
To me, he's barely a top 15 goalie... or an average starter. Why waste our time with a half measure unless the cost is cheap? He turns 27 next season, he is what he is, so it's not like we'd be trading for untapped potential here. Unless we can get him cheap, I'm just not on board. He would likely cost at least a 1st, so it's just not a direction I think we should go in given the fact we still are still rebuilding. I'd rather go after an older guy (Ward, Elliot, Niemi) or stick with Ramo than trade a premium for a guy that represents a slight upgrade at best. Hopefully Gillies and/or McDonald will develop as expected and we can get a short term stop gap in the meantime.
