McDonald didn't set the world afire at the WJC, but he's young and still a good prospect. Gillies is the man in the system, so hopefully his surgery recovery goes well, but assuming it does he's still 2 years away at least.
So what do you do with Ramo and a contract? I doubt he wants a one year deal again, but then I'm guessing the Flames don't either.

If he continues his current play for the bulk of the season, I have no problem with that, especially since we won't have Hiller on the books anymore with his $4.5 million as a back up.
