I mean when young controllable talent is rumored to be wanting out of (or unhappy with) their current situation (Drouin, Rychel, Haynes, Hamonic) then that's the kind of buying I can get behind. Sure it would suck if we couldn't get a standard payout on Hudler/Russell but there are opportunities to be had at the right price.

I'm all for trades that make sense at any time. At the deadline though teams are usually exchanging UFA's and picks. I don't really see the point in us buying UFA's at the expense of futures. If we can unload some UFA's though I'm on board with that. If we can make a hockey trade even better but those seem a lot tougher to actually make. Teams probably prefer the off season for that. I don't think the market for quality talent changes at the deadline which are the guys you are mentioning. More so the UFA's.
