Raymond was a safe waiver player, because (as it turned out), no team would be stupid enough to pick up the bloated contract. Byron, on the other hand, had an easy contract to take a chance on. If they didn't want to lose to lose him, they could have put someone else with an overgenerous contract on waivers, like Engelland.
