And Kylo Ren having a sad moment in the Millenium Falcon only would have added to the confusion of whether he was weak or not, would have helped there too. Also the part about Vader's redemption?? Why the hell did they cut that?

The Republic stuff would have been nice for sure. As would have the lightsabre backstory and a little glimpse into Kylo's past, but I think they are wanting to save that exposition for the next film.
Everything else is 'meh'. I would have liked to see the Wookie arm tear, but he could have done that after Solo's death.
