That bumped them up in the standings from 5th worst to 6th worst. Chicago slid down to 5 and won the draft lottery. They got Patrick Kane, Edmonton got Gagner.
Even though the Flames lost the game, they were partially responsible for the Oilers protracted streak of being in the basement, so it was a win after all.

It bumped them up from 4th worst to 6th worst, leapfrogging both Washington and Chicago, so even if they had lost the game, they still wouldn't have picked first (assuming the lottery would have played out the same). At best, they would have had Alzner available to them as well, but they probably still would have taken Gagner.
