In Gagner's defence the Oilers would have squandered Kane's talent as well. It is similar to the hypothetical Comrie for Corey Perry & a 1st that "the smartest man alive" Kevin Lowe rejected in the fall of 2003. In theory it sounds like a heck of a deal. In reality if it went through Corey Perry would have had his talent squandered to the point where it reunited him with Robbie Shremp in the AHL.

The first rounder I believe would have been Smid's selection. It is a kind of a tragic comedy for Smid as the only thing he had going for him when he was traded was that at least he wasn't drafted by the Oinkers. He at least had some previous experience with an organization that is NOT a fraud masquerading as a pathetic joke.
