Amusingly back in the last game of the season before the year he was drafted, the Flames were playing Edmonton and were up 2-0 half way through the game. Then Beesley announced that whomever lost and the Flames clinched a playoff spot. Calgary stopped playing and Edmonton came back to win.
That bumped them up in the standings from 5th worst to 6th worst. Chicago slid down to 5 and won the draft lottery. They got Patrick Kane, Edmonton got Gagner.
Even though the Flames lost the game, they were partially responsible for the Oilers protracted streak of being in the basement, so it was a win after all.
