The Force Awakens just destroyed the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day box office records.

On Christmas Eve, it pulled in $27.59 million. The previous record was Avatar's $11.15 million. On Christmas Day, it did $49.34 million, doubling the previous record of $24.61 million by Sherlock Holmes.

It is already the 10th highest-grossing film of all time, and should be close to the Top five by the end of the weekend. It will also likely be the highest-grossing Star Wars film by the end of the weekend, overtaking both the original and The Phantom Menace.
