Mostly luck. Winnipeg has likely studied Calgary's PP and knows about Monahan being an option for the slap pass. That's why Thorburn was lifting his stick repeatedly as soon as Johnny was looking for an option.
So Johnny blasts it to Wideman at the backdoor - while way too far off and too fast to one-time, it's certainly not out of reach for a grab & stuff.
Enstrom moved his stick blade into the lane after the slap-pass was off. If he had his stick at another angle it would've been quite a spectacular defensive play. Well, he sure blocked it.. right into his own net!
