I know this isn't the AMA you talked about but I'm curious if you guys have your own kids and if so how you dealt with that. Having troubled kids coming into your home is one thing but the fear of one of them hurting my children would be overwhelming.

I should also point out I've been a youth worker pretty well all my life, worked in group homes youth jails, drug and alcohol facilities etc, so I have a pretty good sense of who was suitable for my home and who wasn't, I also wouldn't leave my daughter alone with my foster kids as you would with older brothers when she was with me, not that I would think they would hurt her on purpose but they weren't the best at understanding consequences.
My mum ran a woman's shelter as I was growing up which undoubtedly influenced my career choices, my daughter now works for service Canada at a help desk and is working towards a social work degree (which I worry about as social worker is a crappy job these days) but I love that she wants to help people and it has balanced out my ex's influence who incredibly materialistic.
On the whole being around foster kids has made my daughter a better person, she certainly views it that way and I'd agree
