I believe they're DVD screeners that are sent out to Academy Awards voters.
There are about 6,000 Academy members, so all it takes is one of them to rip the copy they were sent and upload it. I believe they put some kind of identifiable watermark on the video to help identify anyone who does this, but it's probably not hard to mask it out.
IIRC, in past years, they have been able to identify people who have done this and they have been kicked out of the Academy. Often, it's someone who works for the Academy member, or one of their kids who actually does the ripping and uploading.
