I'm surprised people don't value this feature more. Having your tv pass through the console allows some key benefits.
Primarily, everything is in one place. I never have to change the inputs on my tv. Whether I want to jump into a game, netflix, youtube, plex, or watch a Flames game, I'm accessing it all from the first screen that shows up when I turn on my tv. It also makes jumping back and forth between everything a breeze, no need to grab any remotes or switch anything over.
Another benefit -- you get all your xbox live messages and game invites no matter what you're doing on your tv. I am watching a Flames game and see an xbox live message from a friend to jump into Halo 5 on the screen, I can choose to accept it immediately or decline and keep watching hockey. If my console is on another input, I'm not even seeing that message until I actively switch over to my gaming console.
It basically allows you to centralize your media experience.
Other media things the Xbox does -- snapping apps (multitasking). Admittedly I don't use this very much, but its there should you need it. Also things like voice searches using bing (if you have kinect) add another layer of convenience to find a game or content you are looking for.
I don't have a PS4 yet so not sure how it compares directly with some of these features, but Xbox One has been a great overall media device for me.
