Now we get every single Flames and Oilers game televised in Calgary. That's 164 games right there for only the two Alberta teams. I think the shift has been to regional viewing. You nailed it on the head, every game is on tv. So 20 years ago, you might get one Flames game (local team) a week. Now you can watch all 82 games. With a PVR you can easily view when you have the time. So if you are devoting 82 nights to watching regular season hockey are you really interested in watching additional games? Some will, most will not. When I hear things like the tv ratings for the World Series are way down. Yet tv ratings for baseball are way up, shows that people are watching their favorite, local teams instead of watching the national broadcasts. If your team doesn't make the post season, you probably quit watching.
