I didn't see him as Emo, but more torn. It's like a personality disorder when the crazed side is attempting to take over. I actually thought it was well executed.

And for the final battle, he's powerful, but very raw still. Everything from his light sabre to his control. Even Vader had control over himself and focused his evil. That was clearly a man gripped by rage. Rey has innate ability. I liked how it went down.
That`s pretty close to how I saw it as well and I really liked Kylo`s portrayal. This is a largely undeveloped character which I really like. We`ll get to see a dark side user being brought up from a young age as a sith/dark side user, which we haven`t really seen before.

I thought they showed that he has a lot of untapped power and potential but still lacks the control and focus to put it all together. Now that he`s actually killed his father he has taken a big step towards killing his past and inner conflict. As for the final fight he`s still clearly unfocused (killing your dad will do that), and was heavily wounded by Chewie. He dispatched Finn pretty quickly but was bleeding out and had trouble when faced with someone strong in the force.

I don`t really get the comparisons with Darth Vader or Maul, there isn`t really any to be made. Maul was a fully trained Sith assassin when we saw him. He had learned everything Sideous was ever going to teach him and had actually been combat tested.

The Vader we saw at the beginning of episode 4 was a fully trained Jedi turned Sith lord. He was battle hardened, had fought and killed both Sith lords and Jedi and had lost everything that was dear to him. He was an efficient, merciless, raging hate machine of destruction. So I didn`t expect a young, raw dark side user to have the same presence as those two. It doesn`t really make sense to. Chances are Kylo Ren doesn`t even have much experience against other force sensitives using lightsabers at this point.

The important thing I think they showed is that he at times projects real menace and power. I`m looking forward to seeing him develop after his next round of training.
