I don't think the Force has to be hereditary.
They talk of how Yoda was a master of the force; how powerful Windu was. Look how powerful Dooku was.
Was Palpatine from a family who was strong with the force?
In my mind force sensitivity would be like any other talent. You can be born with it, lineage may play a factor. Brett Hull was a great hockey player, as was his father Bobby before him. That said, Connor McDavid's father wasn't an NHL superstar, either was Johnny Goudreau's. Sidney Crosby's dad was drafted into the NHL, but never made the show, he was also a goaltender.
So why can't Kylo Ren have force sensitivity due to his lineage but have another person who is more sensitive?
I also like the theory of wiping Ren's memory, they could have implanted the desire to stay so she doesn't run off and get mixed up with the whole rebellion thing
