The bizarre thing about the gun control debate Is that polls have shown a significant minority of republicans support stricter gun control (37% in one recent poll). Any other issue, and 37% is enough to make this an issue that candidates at least do lip service to. But between the lobbying money and the backlash, nobody on the Republican Party is going to say anything except 100% support for gun freedom. The thing most stopping a gun control debate from happening is fear of the gun lobby within the Republican Party, not the attitudes of republican voters.
