I'm not too worried about having lots of goalies in the system, as long as there's only 2 in the NHL.
Calgary - Ramo/Khudobin
Stockton - Ortio/Hiller
Adirondack - Appleby/The other guy
Gillies is injured, not expected back at all this season. That leaves Poulin (Also injured, but back mid January I belive) and Simpson. Simpson can be sent to the ECHL no issue. Poulin would have to consent, but regardless, having 3 goalies in Stockton isn't horrible imo. Keep in mind trading a AHL goalie probably wouldn't be too hard.
Still not seeing a down side to a claim. If he's better than Hiller, sweet, we upgraded. If not, just throw him back on waivers.
Worst case scenario is we claim him, lose Hiller to waivers, and Khudobin also sucks. For the sake of arguement, say he's worse than Hiller was. So we waive him, and he also gets claimed. I'm still not upset, so what, we lost two bad goalies who's expiring contracts we weren't going to renew at that point anyway. Then you have Ramo/Ortio in Calgary, Poulin/Simpson in the AHL and Adirondack's usual guys in the ECHL. Not really any worse off than we are now
I still say go for it
