If you like Khudobin better than Hiller (or Ramo), you take him and send the other guy down. No assets lost, and the only cost is Khudobin's expiring contract, probably a few starts for Ortio in the AHL, and likely the ability to get much if any return for the guy that gets sent to the minors (lets face it, you weren't getting anything for him anyways).
Worst case scenario, he craps the bed and you waive him?
Looks like he's been pretty inconsistent this year:
- 7 starts
- In three wins, he is 0.66 GAA with 0.978 save%, one shutout
- In the other four starts, he's been pulled twice, and is 0-3 with a 0.803 save%.
Edit: looks like he was pretty inconsistent last year too. On a crappy Carolina team, he was 0-8-2 in his first 10 starts. Followed that with 6 straight wins (1.50 GAA, 0.946 save%). Then pretty average numbers for the rest of the year (record was 2-9-4).
