Sure, maybe the pick we get turns into an NHLer, and maybe instead we keep Hudler and he gets hot and leads Calgary to a SC. Can play the maybe game all day put at the end my view will always be while you have a shot you got to go for it. Now if someone wants to trade us a young stud player that can help now then give'r but that isn't happening.
While I think your post is a little over simplistic, for the reasons KFF pointed out, in its purest form I'm going to respond and say YES to what you think you are hearing. On both side of this debate, the odds are incredibly low. The chances that Hudler helps this team win a cup this year, as low as that a pick we get back for him turns into an impact player.

Both are gambles, as is every move teams make. The gambles this team should be making right now should still be based around the future, not the present.
