Agree --- Alberta is one place where a non-traditional party could take up and take over. The Liberals are dead in Alberta. And the NDP.... well, we don't even need to talk about them.
The problem is, new parties in these areas tend to be far-right. Can't see that getting too far across the province (I hope).
If the conservatives promote someone from the old core, someone boring and without new ideas, I could see an up-and-comer splitting off and making a difference. The current leaders are conservative both fiscally and socially. There's room for a fiscal conservative/social liberal to start a new party and make major inroads.
