Hrmm that seems like a pretty legit option, a bit of a hassle but at least it would fit properly. Better than just knocking the dry wall out and leaving it that way. The frustrating part is that we had tons of room to back in the garage, easily 1-2 feet but for some reason they made it as shallow as they could.
