I agree to that the Crowd effect mics ( commonmly called IS for International Sound) are quite low on Sportsnet Flames game. This could is probably a preference based on the production team there.
Most broadcasters in Canada right now are using stereo shows and then upconverting to a surround sound for distribution. So it could be in the that processing that the rear noise is added....
