Not that he was necessarily a liability - the bad plays he would make up for by skating back and breaking plays up - but he still wasn't moving the puck forward quickly either. Looking for the safest plays across the ice still because he doesn't have that confidence to make a crisp pass up to the forwards.
Having 04/05 Gio back would go a long ways in turning things around. He's gone from abysmal to a competent d-man but he's not in elite form yet.

It was nice to see him try to find that wrister again. He's getting closer. Confidence is going to go a longer way for Gio than most of the team with all the pressure he puts on himself from being el capitan.
