I don't know how true this is in Canada, but wouldn't the children and spouse of the current Prime Minister have some kind of security detail prescribed to them, whether they wanted it or not? I get that he might not have wanted it prior to becoming PM, but now that he is in office, does he even have much of a choice in the matter to have something in place given his position? I know we are a pretty safe country, but just thinking out loud here.
