Getting Stamkos for Monahan in a 1 for 1 trade is actually a bad move. The Flames are not going to be a cup team for 2 seasons. Stamkos is in his prime now and will begin his descent in 4-5 years, just like Iginla post 2008. The Flames window as it sits now is likely 2017-2024. Stamkos will be 34 in 2024. Monahan though will be 30 and still in his prime. Stamkos would shorten our window by at least 2,3 maybe 4 years depending on how injury prone he is.

Stamkos has been declining for a while now. Each of his last 3 seasons has seen his point per game total go down. He's barely on pace for 60 points this year.
Whoever pays him this summer is gonna be disappointed.
