The Flames will take a massive step backwards if any of the 5 current big players on the team are dealt. Any trade involving Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Brodie or Hamilton is a loss, it would be a massive downgrade.

Getting Stamkos for Monahan in a 1 for 1 trade is actually a bad move. The Flames are not going to be a cup team for 2 seasons. Stamkos is in his prime now and will begin his descent in 4-5 years, just like Iginla post 2008. The Flames window as it sits now is likely 2017-2024. Stamkos will be 34 in 2024. Monahan though will be 30 and still in his prime. Stamkos would shorten our window by at least 2,3 maybe 4 years depending on how injury prone he is.
