There is no chance someone goes over 7 years on Price. That's uncharted territory, especially for a guy that is over 30. Hernandez/Verlander/Kershaw only got 7 years in their prime.
In my mind, the optimal contract on Price is 4 or 5 years. That's not going to get it done though. Need a 6th and potentially a 7th year. I'd be willing to sacrifice the albatross at the end (6th and maybe a 7th year) for 4-5 good years of Price. Anything over 7 is borderline insane though. I wouldn't be mad at the Jays at all if he signed somewhere else for 8 years. I would encourage them to walk away and look elsewhere.
