Staples has long been a proponent of the Edmonton Arena deal so, surprise surprise, he thinks its a win.

What amazes me about the Edmonton deal is the complete shaft the City of Edmonton received on it. Katz raked them over the coals:

Owners group: 17.19 million (!) for the arena, plus $112.81 in rent over 35 years
CRL: 232 million
Ticket tax: 125 million
Parking + business taxes (???): 80 million (I don't know what this is)
Land: City purchased from Katz Group for 25 million (!!!)

Also, isn't there still a 125 million gap the Edmonton wants from the Prov. Government? ultimately the city will fill that hole too.
