I don't see how that makes it any more likely. Of course it's from Price's camp. For this to be leaked from the Jays side would be a strategically flawed move…it wouldn't make any sense. Why raise the fan base hopes when you're up against the biggest/most attractive markets in the MLB to sign him?
Unfortunately, I see this as a bargaining chip from Price's side and the incumbent team is being used to drive up the demand. It's been widely reported he's as good as gone from Toronto and Chicago his most likely destination. Coincidentally, today the leak from Chicago's side is that Price is commanding too much money and likely out of their budget range right now. To me it looks like there is a bit of a cat and mouse game going on between the Cubs and Price.
I'll be thrilled if I'm wrong, and maybe this is a refreshingly genuine gesture from Price's camp, so here's hoping that's the case.
