It's why it's tough. There are no real comparables in terms of determining value.
Phaneuf and Hamilton are close but both had much better offensive pedigrees.
In terms of the player himself Boychuk is probably the closest but he was 29 and 1 year away from UFA when traded.
Myers/Bogosian are probably close but the other pieces in that trade (Kane/Draft Picks) make it really hard to compare in terms of value.
Is Hamonic more valuable then Jack or Eric Johnson were at the time that they were traded? Probably not, but people seem to think the returns will be in the similar ball park or more, not even considering both of those guys were traded with a 1st rounder when they were dealt.
